Description
I knew that I had to paint one of the magnificent sculptural arches that I photographed while traversing Moab UT. After looking through all of my photos, I decided the image of Turret Arch was the strongest one! The morning lighting was so dynamic and really added to the drama of the image. I first approached this piece with the intention of making it realistic, however during the process I found myself getting more expressive with the technique. I captured textures and colors that don't translate through a photograph. I wanted to make sure the impact of being there in person and the emotions this arch evokes would translate through this painting.
Description of the composition:
Vibrant red rock formations dominate the scene, with a natural arch framing the sky. Rich textures and colors highlight the rugged landscape under a vivid blue sky.
